One of the most popular and in-demand skills is anything related to computers–programming, repair, networking, and cybersecurity to name a few. If you love the challenge of coding computers to do just about anything you can visualize, the hardest part of deciding on a post-High School career may be selecting the right specialty.
Zarek Drozda, director of the nonprofit DataScience for Everyone, says his organization has seen interest in offering AI and datascience coursework increase among school districts, with the number of states launching data initiatives increasing from one to 29 over the past four years.
The framework focuses on six core areas: DataScience, Mathematical Reasoning, Creative Problem Solving, Ethics, Applied Experiences and Programming. For more information about this work, visit the GCPS Office of Artificial Intelligence and ComputerScience website. Click here to see the full infographic.
As AI becomes more pervasive, educators recognize that these skills are not just for future computer scientists or tech professionals. Holloway is at the forefront of artificial intelligence and computerscience education in one of Georgias largest school districts. Recommended Resources: What Does It Mean to Be AI Ready?
For one thing a lot of teachers have been voluntold that they are going to teach computerscience in the fall. Some have never taught CS before. Hopefully, all CS teachers join the ComputerScience Teachers Association (CSTA). Many people also join ComputerScience Educators which is a wide ranging group for CS teachers.
I talked about what everyone needs to know about computing to support democracy, with a focus on our recent course on AI. Elle is a computational neuroscientist who decided to go meta. She now studies how scientists learn and use computational methods. They talk together about their science, but not really about code.
I was thinking about datascience lately. The problem is that I don’t know much about datascience. I learned about data bases in school and worked with them some in industry but that was mostly about how they work internally. But I never did much of anything with real work data applications.
For many years, I have been saying that computerscience and its tools should be the same. Early on I thought of things like using spreadsheets to look at data. But coming back to data. I recently watched a TEDx talk by Emmanuel Schanzer titled Four Ingredients for K-12 DataScience.
I was on a panel Assessments for Non-CS Major Computing Classes (see the ACM DL paper here ). Her talk was particularly relevant to me because she emphasized how she is studying business students, not computerscience students her research is about how non-CS students interact with computing and programming.
Technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and cloud computing are transforming businesses. Students can’t go wrong with future careers in information technology and computerscience. To become a machine learning engineer, you will need a master’s degree in computerscience or artificial intelligence.
Mathematics: The Language of ComputerScience Theoretical Foundations At the heart of computerscience lies a rich tapestry of mathematical concepts. From algorithms and data structures to cryptography and database systems, mathematics provides the theoretical foundation that underpins these areas.

For those who prefer a structured learning path, more than eight free courses are available, covering topics like computerscience, coding, and STEM fields.
For instance, a student in the field of datascience might initially need a laptop capable of running statistical software for class projects. Still, as they move into their professional role, they might require more advanced computing power for large data sets and machine learning applications.
Datascience: a powerful tool for social good. Data scientists use scientific methods and computer algorithms to extract knowledge and information from large datasets. Thanks to datascience algorithms, when you use a search engine, such as Google, to look for anything, the most relevant results appear first.
Way back in time, cybersecurity was all about controlling access to the computer in the locked room with the raised floor. People were and are still the weak link in computer security. In the early days few people had access to a computer. but there is more to computerscience than programming. Like cybersecurity.
This includes developing competency in social-emotional learning, design thinking and computational thinking, whether or not students eventually study computing or engineering or enter the information technology industry. She has worked with Digital Promise to develop a competency-based computational thinking learning pathway.

And indeed one of the great achievements of our civilization over the past several centuries has been to build up the paradigms of mathematics, the exact sciences—and, most importantly, now computation—and to create a tower of capabilities quite different from what pure human-like thinking can achieve. I think about things as a human.
This exciting, hands-on contest invites young learners to collaborate on projects in biomedical engineering, datascience, and AI, with the aim of solving real-world problems through STEM. Learners will explore exciting career paths of Biomedical Engineering and DataScience / Artificial Intelligence.
Modelling minds: can computers mimic human intelligence? For many years, psychologists and neuroscientists have sought to uncover how the mind functions, while computer scientists have attempted to reproduce human-like capabilities in machines. Or are you smarter than computers? What are computational models?
Do you have interest in computerscience but thought it's just about learning to code? While coding is a crucial aspect of computerscience, it's not the only reason to pursue this field. Here are the top four benefits of studying computerscience that don't include coding. Well, think again!
Cool Coding & ComputerScience Resources for Teens. Even if you never go on to a career in IT, electrical engineering, or computer programming, everyone needs to know the basics. contribute to real science projects. teach your computer to do your homework. Cool Tools to Start Learning ComputerScience.
During most of the pandemic, I co-chaired (with Gus Evrard , a Physics professor and computational cosmologist) the Computing Education Task Force ( website ) for the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). Computing for Justice : Think critical computing and everything that C.P.
Geoffrey now works at Purdue as a data scientist and plays a critical role in assisting research groups across campus with their computational needs. So what exactly do you do as a data scientist? I work at the Rosen Center for Advanced Computing at Purdue University.
This is a reprint from a series of posts I'm currently doing on datascience in teaching, over at Medium. When it comes to learning datascience, that’s easy for me, because I had no actual expertise to begin with when I started learning the subject in earnest this past summer. Although I have a Ph.D.
Julie York, a computerscience and media teacher at South Portland High School in Maine, was scouring the internet for discussion tools for her class when she found TeachFX. This is why the computational power we have now is exciting. Large language models can analyze classroom discussions at scale. There’s no judgment here.
The Challenge of Teaching Coding Perhaps the most challenging assignment makeovers will come in courses on computer coding. For the post, he and a colleague interviewed 20 computing professors to hear how they were giving their assignments a makeover.
Can datascience help us achieve a stronger start and brighter future for children? Published: Dr Rachel Wilcock , DataScience Lead at Nesta , explains how datascience can be a powerful tool for social good. What is datascience? How does Nesta use datascience for social good?
