Criticalthinking! This visual is inspired by Elesapiens work What is criticalthinking? I like to think of criticalthinking as an analytic framework, a conceptual structure that weaves together a set of interconnected thinking skills and reasoning abilities.
Engagement and creativity play such important roles in the learning process, but with the myriad of other requirements and obligations, they can easily get lost in the abyss of deadlines and mandates. Creativity helps develop a deeper sense of learning, yet we keep our “creative” units until after state testing is over.
Creativity is more than an artistic skill; it involves thinking differently, collaborating, developing solutions and communicating in a way that connects with others. Leveraging creativity in the classroom helps students develop a deeper understanding and make cross-curricular connections.
Teaching creativity and creativethinking in K-12 has always been valued but often challenging to implement. Many standards and curricula don’t call out creativity explicitly, and teachers aren’t often trained on how to teach and assess creativethinking. That end-to-end process is creativethinking.
Seeing as how art has been such a big part of Irish history and culture, I was thinking about something artistic in some way, but how on earth do I grade something creative? I want the students to do something historical, obviously—depict an event or person, perhaps—but I understand that not everyone is equally creative in the arts.
