In Learning in the Making I discuss the importance of and strategies for integrating technology into the curriculum. Maker education needs to be intentional. What comes to your mind when you hear words “movie”, “novel”, “theater” or an “advertisement”? Story, emotions, and enjoyment!! Isn’t it? On the contrary what comes to the mind when you hear “chapter”, “lesson”,” module” or a “topic”? A highly academic- drab presentation or a lecture ….Right? All of us enjoy a good story, whether it’s a novel, a movie, a drama, an advertisement or something our friends/teachers/family members narrate to us.

The instructor’s PPT slides are brilliant. You’ve splurged on the expensive interactive courseware. Student engagement is stellar. So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science! With so much material to "teach" these days, we often forget to incorporate key proven principles into our curricula — namely active recall, metacognition, spaced repetition, and interleaving practice.

This topic is a hot button for me. So many parents think education is the school’s job and student think it’s SUD–Some Other Dude’s responsibility but not them. I was thrilled when Ask a Tech Teacher guest author, Pete McAllister, sent this article in: While teachers are often challenged with students who lack responsibility and self-motivation, enhancing student learning can be a tedious ongoing task.

Eric Iversen. “Not everything can be solved with an algorithm…. People need to build up their knowledge. Philosophy, art, the ability to understand the sweep and impact of history. Technology changes, but the problems mankind has to deal with pretty much remain the same.” — John McCumber, Director of Cybersecurity Advocacy for North America, (ISC)2 The (surprising) big picture In words that a professor of English or history might use, John McCumber, a high-profile evangelist for cybersecurity ca
7 Excellent Thanksgiving Books That Every Kid Will Love Fall is in the air! Well, actually not here in Florida. Fall doesn't come until the end of December. LOL What I do love here in my home state is that we get the entire week off at Thanksgiving. When I first started teaching, we only got 4 days off. It was so hard to get everything done! {Cry me a river, right?!
Our Posterity = Our Children Posterity comes from Middle English posterite, from Anglo-French pusterite, from Latin posterus ("coming after"). Last week we discussed some of the early pioneers of aviation. Without them we probably would not have the different flying machines that we have today! The original term for these women and men were Aeronautical Engineers.
I’m a big believer in online web-based curricula that can be accessed from any browser, any digital device, any location. It makes learning organic, part of life rather than something that must happen from a certain book or room. To me, the growing popularity of web-based curricula is no surprise. The problem is trying to blend them effortlessly into a class LMS or learning platform without lots of extra clicks and logins.
Mathematics, a subject steeped in abstract concepts, often poses challenges to students, especially those in grades 5-10. But imagine a bridge that transformed this intricate maze into an interactive adventure.
Quizlet Live launched several years ago, but it's still one of my favorite games to play with my students. Basically it takes a Quizlet set and turns it into a collaborative game. Once you open the set that you want to use and select the live option a website and code are presented to students. Students are assigned to teams and then they they need to work together to answer the questions.
World Health Organization estimates that there are approximately 466 million individuals across the world with some form of hearing loss, of which 34 million are children. If this figure is surprising, the prediction that there could be a whopping 900 million people worldwide with hearing loss by 2050 will be devastating. Of course, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) , passed in 1990, has helped pave the way to make life easier for individuals with auditory impairment, by ensuring accessi

Speechling is a excellent free site for learning a language. The way this works is a student listens to a professional voice actor say the word or phrase and then repeats it and records themselves. Then a professional will listen to recording and provide feedback on how the word was spoken to help learn the language. Below is a brief demo. I highly recommend checking out Speechling by clicking here !!!
