Circly is a wonderful new graphic organizers that educators can use to brainstorm, manage tasks, create collaborative group projects, Venn diagrams and more. The CSTA 2021 Virtual Conference is in the books. I really did enjoy it and I learned a lot. Virtual conferences are different from in-person conferences and I plan a post on that. But for now I want to talk about this year. First off, the conference program was pretty awesome if I can say that as part of the conference committee that selected them.

What are the fundamental skills that young children need to develop at the start of school for future academic success? Researchers examined the links between emotion knowledge, cooperation, locomotor activity and numerical skills in 706 pupils aged 3 to 6. The results show that emotion knowledge, cooperative social behavior and locomotor activity are interrelated and associated with numerical skills.

Edform is an excellent site for educators looking to easily turn their worksheets into interactive graded assignments. This is done simply by uploading a file (i.e. doc, pdf, etc), add questions or multimedia elements, and then share a link w/ students. Once the assignment has been completed it gets graded automatically, generates a detailed report, and makes it easy for teachers to differentiate instruction.

Children exposed to elevated levels of air pollution may be more likely to have poor inhibitory control during late childhood and poor academic skills in early adolescence, including spelling, reading comprehension, and math skills. Difficulty with inhibition in late childhood was found to be a precursor to later air pollution-related academic problems.

Despite passing rigorous physical and medical tests, isolation tests, and more, the project (a private venture, not an official NASA one) was put on hold. Michael Caspersen invited me to review a chapter on the Danish Informatics curriculum (see a link here ). He asked me to compare it to existing school CS curriculum with which I’m familiar. That was an interesting idea — how does anyone relate curricula across diverse contexts, even between nations? I gave it a shot. I most likely missed, in that there are many curricula that I don’t know or don’t know well enough.

Okay, it helps that I know the guy personally - he was my school's varsity soccer coach for about three years a decade ago, and I called his team's games on internet audio.
