As is true for a lot of progressive educators, I have a belief in and attempt to practice the implementation of student voice and choice: Sometimes this means fully letting go of the reins so learners become fully self-directed. I had the privilege of witnessing this in action one afternoon last week. I use the word, “witness,” as it was fully and totally due to the actions of one student.

Surprisingly, 15-20% of the population has a language-based learning disability and over 65% of those are deficits in reading. Often, these go undiagnosed as students, parents, and teachers simply think the child is not a good reader, is lazy, or is disinterested. Thankfully, the International Dyslexia Association sponsors an annual Dyslexia Awareness Month in October aimed to expand comprehension of this little-understood language-based learning condition.

Since my students loved our apple ten frame printables, I knew they would love to work with some fall ten frames as well! A Minimal Example of Multicomputation. Multicomputation is an important new paradigm , but one that can be quite difficult to understand. Here my goal is to discuss a minimal example: multiway systems based on numbers. Many general multicomputational phenomena will show up here in simple forms (though others will not). With autumn in the air, we are having fun with our share of all things pumpkin and other “traditional” fall math center themes, but sometimes a break from the norm is fun to shake things up. This autumn-themed counting center does just that as kids practice number recognition and ten frames with playful crows! Getting Ready. I watched a clip of him telling a story of how when his family was struggling financially a friend of his bought him a car. In the same clip, it shows how years later "The Rock" was paying back his friend's kindness by giving him a brand new truck.
