Two math celebrations are coming up this month: Pi Day. World Maths Day. Pi Day. Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant ? (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the three most significant digits of ? in the decimal form. Daniel Tammet, a high-functioning autistic savant, holds the European record for reciting pi from memory to 22,514 digits in five hours and nine minutes.

With Ørsted's Discovery, we established that electric currents are surrounded by magnetic fields. In this activity, we extend that to the design of electromagnets and motors. In our traditional, In-Person Learning electricity and magnetism sequence, we would have used our Genecon hand-crank generators to power electric circuits. In short, we would have been familiar with their utility as generators.

The immediate follow-up to the Electric Magnetism activity is the Magnetic Electricity activity. As one might expect, Electric Magnetism explored the ability to produce magnetic fields using electric currents. Magnetic Electricity moves on to using magnetic fields to produce electric currents, with an emphasis on "moves". Induced current and turning motors into generators are at play in this one.

On March 10, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan Act, which President Biden is expected to sign into law this week. The bill includes $123 billion in funding for elementary and secondary schools across the country. With the COVID-19 pandemic, many schools are seeking curriculum options that allow their students to learn from anywhere—even at home at the kitchen table—and this funding will be used by school districts to achieve just that.

This is especially useful w/ school starting up and teachers want to learn the correct way to pronounce their student's names.
